How to Stay Healthy While on Vacation

Travel can both be exciting to your mind and disruptive to your body. With new adventures, long days and irregular schedules travel brings on some form of digestive distress, bloating, illness and trouble sleeping. There are a few things that you can do to help keep you stay healthy while on vacation.

First thing in the Morning

Hydrate: Make sure you're drinking 1/2 your weight in water. If you weigh 120 lbs then make sure you drink at least 60 oz in water. More if you are sweating.

Meditate or Practice Mindfulness: Stress and negativity can take a toll on your well-being and drain your energy levels. Make sure you take a pause every morning to ground yourself with yoga, deep breathing and mindfulness.

Eat a Good Breakfast: Full your body and boost your immunity with some sort of probiotic. Try yogurt with fresh fruit.

Throughout the Day

Pack healthy snacks: Trail mix with dried fruit and nuts is a healthy alternative to candy bars and chips. Also, pack fresh fruits and vegetables, such as, apples, oranges and carrot sticks.

Keep your hands clean: Make sure you wash your hands and pack along some hand sanitizer.

Night time

Make dinner count: Dinnertime should be a time for renewing and relaxing. Aim to finish eating two to three hours before bedtime for better sleep. Incorporate lean protein, dark leafy greens, whole grains and other nutrient-dense foods to replenish your body’s energy stores.

Sleep Routine: Proper sleep will help keep your immunity and digestion healthy, while lack of sleep will contribute to their distress. Bringing a travel blanket or pillow case can help you relax with it's familiarity. While writing in a journal can help quiet your mind. Write 2 or 3 things that you are grateful for will help you get into a mindset of better relaxation and then deeper sleep.
