My life changing trip to Peru

My adventure to Machu Picchu turned out to be an exhilarating experience that far exceeded my expectations! In March 2025, I embarked on this incredible journey with friends and clients after a fantastic ten-day escapade in the Galapagos. Since we were already in the vicinity, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to hop over to Peru and explore the wonders of Machu Picchu. Our whirlwind four-day stay was nothing short of spectacular.

Our journey began with a late-night arrival in Lima, Peru, due to flight schedules from Baltra, Ecuador. Thankfully, we stayed at an airport hotel, which was a blessing since we had an early flight to Cusco the next morning. Although our flight faced some delays, we finally arrived in Cusco by late morning.

A private driver whisked us away to the Sacred Valley for an unforgettable excursion. We delved into the fascinating world of Inca Weavers and even had the chance to interact with llamas and alpacas! Lunch at a stunning Hacienda house was a culinary delight, followed by an awe-inspiring private ceremony with a shaman offering thanks to Mother Earth. It was a deeply moving experience for all of us.

The second day unfolded in a similar vein, as we explored magnificent pre-Inca and Inca sites. We enjoyed an exquisite picnic lunch amid breathtaking scenery – a truly luxurious and private experience. Our stay at the Aranwa Hotel, Resort, and Spa was beyond delightful, providing us with some free time on the second night to indulge in spa services. The favorable exchange rate with Peruvian soles was an added bonus!

Day three was both long and unforgettable – arguably the highlight of our Peruvian adventure! We embarked on a scenic drive to Ollantaytambo train station, where we boarded an observation train bound for Machu Picchu. This 90-minute journey offered breakfast, drinks, music, and entertainment against a backdrop of stunning landscapes. Upon reaching the base of Machu Picchu, a bus transported us up the mountain – though walking is an option if you're up for a challenge!

Machu Picchu's vistas were absolutely breathtaking. As the morning fog lifted, the sky cleared beautifully. Despite forecasts predicting rain and thunderstorms earlier in the week, we enjoyed splendid weather with only occasional sprinkles. The sheer ingenuity of an ancient civilization constructing massive stone structures without modern tools was humbling. However, the high altitude made breathing challenging during our extensive exploration. We followed Circuit Two and had about two hours to soak in Machu Picchu’s splendor – timing is strictly enforced here.

Lunch just outside the gates was delightful before we descended the mountain and returned to Cusco by train, catching some much-needed rest along the way.

Our final day in Peru was spent at a downtown hotel in Cusco. Here, we explored the Palace of the Sun, an ancient Inca site later transformed into a monastery by Spanish colonizers. We also marveled at a magnificent cathedral.

I wish we had more time in this enchanting country; another week could easily be filled with discovery! What made this trip truly special? Sharing it with friends. Even if you didn’t know each other beforehand, you certainly did afterward. Each destination was a delightful surprise, deepening our understanding of Peru's rich culture and history far beyond just Machu Picchu.
