There are some journeys that feel like stepping into a dream. My recent cruise aboard the luxurious Windstar Star Pride from April 30 – May 5, 2026, through Holland and Belgium was exactly that — a week filled with vibrant tulip fields, storybook canals, historic cities, and some of the best cuisine I’ve ever experienced at sea.
From the moment we boarded in Amsterdam, this voyage felt more like traveling aboard a private yacht than a traditional cruise ship. With fewer guests, personalized service, and an intimate atmosphere, Windstar delivered an experience that was immersive, elegant, and refreshingly relaxed.
Why Sail with Windstar?
There is something truly special about Windstar Cruises. Unlike mega ships, the Star Pride offers a boutique sailing experience where the crew quickly knows your name, your favorite drink, and even your preferred coffee order.
The Windstar Star Pride is beautifully designed with spacious suites, stylish lounges, and inviting public spaces that never feel crowded. The atmosphere is sophisticated without being formal — luxury without pretension.
A few highlights onboard included:
Spacious ocean-view suites
Exceptional personalized service
Open bridge access
An elegant spa and fitness center
Multiple dining venues with no assigned seating
Destination-focused experiences
A relaxed yacht-club ambiance
One of my favorite parts of sailing with Windstar is how the ship can dock in smaller ports that larger ships simply cannot access. That means more authentic destinations and less time dealing with crowds.
The Itinerary: Tulips Season in Holland and Belgium
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam
Our journey began in one of Europe’s most charming capitals. Springtime in Amsterdam is pure magic. Canals lined with blooming flowers, bicycles weaving through narrow streets, and café terraces buzzing with life created the perfect start to the voyage.
Many guests arrived early to explore: The Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, Canal cruises and King Day. We spent a few hours at the Van Gogh museum. And of course, tulips were everywhere.

Rotterdam
Rotterdam offered a completely different side of the Netherlands — modern architecture, innovative food culture, and vibrant energy.
While in Rotterdam we took the opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Delft. We walked around the old town, ate lunch at a local cafe and toured the Royal Delft museum and factory.

Antwerp, Belgium
Antwerp
Antwerp surprised me in the best way. This stylish Belgian city blends history, fashion, art, and gastronomy beautifully.
We took a food tour with Windstar that was not only informative but delicious. We wandered cobblestone streets lined with ornate guild houses, visited stunning cathedrals, and indulged in Belgian chocolates and waffles. The café culture here was wonderful — relaxed, elegant, and distinctly European.

Bruges
If there is a fairytale city in Europe, Bruges may be it. While here we took a walking tour that taught us the history and beauty of Bruges. Medieval buildings, horse-drawn carriages, peaceful canals, and charming market squares made this one of the most memorable stops of the cruise. Every corner looked like a painting.
The Belgian fries, waffles, and local beer tastings here were unforgettable.

The Food: A Culinary Experience at Sea
Windstar’s dining experience deserves its own spotlight.
The food aboard the Star Pride was genuinely exceptional — beautifully presented, fresh, creative, and destination inspired. Every meal felt thoughtfully curated rather than mass-produced.
Some standout moments included:
the brand new asian fusion specialty restaurant, Basil and Bamboo
European-inspired pastries each morning
Elegant steak and wine dinners
Fresh regional ingredients reflecting the itinerary
Outdoor dining under the stars
Incredible desserts that were impossible to resist
One of the things I love most about Windstar is that dining feels relaxed and refined at the same time. No rushing. No giant buffet chaos. Just exceptional service and memorable meals. The best thing is all the food is included. Whether you eat in the dining room, indulge in one of the specialty dining restaurants or order room service you don't pay anything extra. And the beverage package and this truly is an all inclusive vacation.
The Beauty of Tulip Season
Timing this cruise during tulip season made the experience even more spectacular.
Fields of vibrant red, pink, yellow, and purple tulips stretched across the countryside throughout the Netherlands. It’s difficult to describe just how breathtaking it is to see these blooms in person.
Spring temperatures were comfortable, perfect for walking tours, canal strolls, and outdoor cafés.
For travelers who love:
Gardens
Photography
European culture
Food and wine
Riverfront cities
History and architecture
…this itinerary is an absolute dream.
Final Thoughts
This sailing aboard the Windstar Star Pride was everything I love about travel — immersive destinations, meaningful cultural experiences, incredible cuisine, and the joy of discovering Europe at a slower pace.
The Netherlands and Belgium during tulip season are truly magical, and experiencing them aboard a luxury yacht made the journey even more unforgettable.
If you’ve ever dreamed of wandering medieval towns, seeing tulip fields in bloom, enjoying world-class cuisine, and sailing in a more intimate, elegant way, then a Windstar voyage through Holland and Belgium deserves a spot on your travel list.
Because sometimes the best journeys are not about checking destinations off a list — they’re about savoring every beautiful moment along the way.
